Fans too loud!

There's been a lot of discussion on this since time immemorial. There are lots of ways to reduce system noise. In your case, the dual CPU HSFs are probably the number one culprit. You should look at the Thermalright AX-7, SVC GC-68 or Alpha PAL8045 with a 35-40 CFM fan from Panasonic or YSTech...

What about the version with RPM sensor, the FBA08A12H1BX? I can't find these anywhere. Digikey have the M1BX (32 CFM, 28 dB(A)) but I really want the 40 CFM fan...

Which HSF for more bang for the buck??

Seems a lot of folks can't read these days... What's the ambient room temp? Your case temp should be no more than +5C to +10C over that. If it is, you need better case cooling before you address the HSF. Your rig doesn't spec a case, case fans or PSU, so it's hard to say whether that's the real...

Anyone have experience with rounded IDE/floppy cables?

I bought some rounded IDE and floppy cables from PCs For Everyone here in Boston when I got the parts for my new system. Didn't have much luck with the floppy cable - my A7V266-E with the latest BIOS wouldn't boot from the floppy drive with the rounded cable, but worked fine with the included...

Fan question

According to their website, it's 37 CFM @ 30 dB(A). Sanyo have a fan that moves 43.1 CFM @ 33 dB(A), and Papst have a 40.6 CFM @ 32 dB(A). Any of these look like good choices for CPU cooling.

Enermax Power Supply and Lian-Li case?

quieting the jet

I see from AA0's system list that he has an A7V266-E, which doesn't work with the Alpha PAL8045. However, in another thread MedicBob reported that the SVC GC-68 works well with his A7V266-E. I'm trying to decide between the GC-68 and the Thermalright AX-7, but nobody seems to know if the AX-7...

1.2Tbird w/ Glaciator peaking at 52degC under load...Should i install a blow hole...is that temp ok?

The CPU should be stable and healthy at 52C (125F). However, Overclockers reviewed the Glaciator with a 1.33 Tbird and got 33.9C (with 23C ambient temperature), so it sounds like something is wrong with your setup. Either the heat sink-CPU interface isn't solid, or the fan is underperforming...

loud north bridge and video card fans

I have an ASUS A7V266-E, which uses the VIA KT266A northbridge. It appears that about half of the KT266A mobos use fans on the KT266A, and the other half use heat sinks. Does anyone know where I can get a heat sink to replace the northbridge fan that will work with the mounting holes currently...

Super Quiet System

Aluminum cases are not inherently quieter than plastic-clad. In fact, Havoc's probably right that they're sometimes louder. But the nice thing about aluminum is that they're inherently cooler, which means you can use fans with lower RPM/CFM and therefore reduce noise that way. I do find that...
