I'm still running my old Q9550s/Asus Q35 combo in an HTPC and torrent box. When it craps out I'll upgrade but it's been good the last few years I've been running it.
You could always find a P45 motherboard that has DDR3. They are out there, just have to look. As for X48, you have two PCIe 2.0 x16 electrical slots (not just an x16 slot that's wired for x8 or x4) and DDR3 support. Normally, higher end P45 mobos and X48 mobos are well featured anyway.
That's kind of a stupid comment...
A lot of 1156 owners (myself included) are waiting for the 1366 replacement. No sense in replacing something that works perfectly fine for what I do anyway.
I bought my wife and sons gifts and use the rest of the Christmas money I get from relatives for bills. By the beginning of the new year, I'm three months ahead of the game on everything but rent which is always a month ahead anyway.
I've been using my EVGA P55 FTW for over a year without a single problem. I usually go for Asus, Gigabyte, and EVGA. For regular workstations, I use Intel system boards. Really depends on budget though.
Very happy with my I7-860 at 3.8. I bought everything at launch and it has performed flawlessly at everything I've thrown at it. No complaints here. Next real upgrade will be an SSD drive.
