Did my brother fry my processor or motherboard?

This is he, posting from a friend's PC at QuakeCon2003... I left it unplugged with no battery and the CMOS jumper (JBATT) shorted for half an hour. I had removed the power cord and pressed the power button to get the last twitch out of the fans also. No dice. HELP! I haven't played a damn...

Win 2000 Logon style in XP

A couple days ago, I simply restarted to free up some resources, and I was surprised to see a small window displaying the "Windows is now shutting down". During the reboot, it didn't show a login screen at all, but just the little window with a space for my name and password... My friend says...

XP doesn't see my drives...

umm..i can't run my XP disc, if I don't have a CD drive to play it in. Windows is only seeing my hard disks, and the floppy... So, a CD I put in the drive doesn't autoplay, and I can't do anything. The only way I can see getting the driver files, is via download from MS somehow.. any suggestions?

XP doesn't see my drives...

Earlier today I was installing some burner software, that came with my Plextor drive... I installed Easy CD Creator 4 and Direct CD. Upon rebooting, I recieved the error message that the two applications had known compatibility issues with XP, and that the drivers would not be used. So...

Intellimouse Explorer & Wireless Explorer Comments

How much you want for that last one? I'm desperate here...this regular Intellimouse USB works good for regular windows browsing, but I can't rail right with it... And don't give me some absurd price either.. I've already tried a dozen searches for finding an Intellimouse Pro online, but...

I need some CD bruning software.

I had the same problem when I first installed XP. So, if you only need to erase CD-RW's I would recommend Nero 5. Nero's great for burning ISO's, and CD duplication... But if you have any problems with Nero, then I think CD-RWin also works well with XP.

Should I upgrade my 1.8 to a Northwood 1.8a?

If you're gonna upgrade to a Northwood chipset, then for god's sake, DON'T go buy another CPU clocked at 1.8Ghz! The performace increase would be pretty slight... So, go ahead and make it worth the while, and buy a 2.2GHz Northwood or something... You won't have to upgrade for a much longer...
