Here's the situation:
i5 3450 with HD2500 iGPU
Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard
XFX 7770 dGPU
Various other details that probably don't matter
Initially I built and used this setup just fine for weeks. Then the motherboard seems to have shorted out and died.
The Motherboard has now been RMAed, i've...
Ah! Nice, thanks for the extra pointers.
Yeah, I assume it's supplied for a good reason, to prevent metal-on-metal contact, which is generally a bad thing within a PC case. Hell, if for no other reason than it would also help deaden any vibrations!
It was more like a thick (2mm?...) foamy pad, rather than just tape.
it was also mighty good adhesive. Took some effort to get the backplate back off the motherboard's back!
This seems like such a simple thing, but I've not been able to find a place to source them, so... I'm wondering if I'm just overcomplicating the issue.

First up, to be clear about the type of games I like and why (so you know if this applies to you or not) here's my view on the games that it's likely to be compared to...
Nice analogy!
But I'm not trying to thicken the ketchup, trying to have both a separate sauce AND ketchup at the same time. :)
To clarify -
The Lucid MVP tech is what's meant to try and accelerate the GPU, (...
I've spent a few days looking around for any sort of resources on forums or lucid's websites, or pretty much anywhere else to be honest, to try and solve this problem, but... not having much luck.
So either I'm the only one having this problem, in which case it's me being thick and the answer...
Funnily enough, I did EXACTLY the same thing with my new build, though the part I hadn't realised was that it had to be screwed in from below (I thought it sat rather loosely on the socket when I first put it on...)
By that stage, everything else was done, had to disconnect drives...
