Is an HDR monitor pointless for me?

I don't think there's much benefit for you outside of using HDR for non-PC stuff. There's no traditional monitor-sized options out there right now. HDR is only worth it if you buy either an OLED tv (expensive) or a higher end LED TV which can achieve high peak brightness and has local dimming...

I tried the hdparm app, and it definitely does disable APM (I can see the difference in crystaldiskinfo), but the regular click still happens. Maybe I have to accept this is how the drive operates. At least it's nowhere near as loud as the Seagate was. It happens even on the freshly formatted...

A couple of weeks ago I got a new hard drive for some mass storage (Seagate archive 8TB). It worked perfectly fine -- speeds were normal and it passed any test I ran it through. However, with total regularity it made a seeking/clicking noise every 5 seconds. And the pattern of noise is the same...

What display are you rocking?

Philips BDM4065UC. 40", 4K, and a VA panel with inky blacks. I love it. Actual, post-calibration contrast is something like 5x better than my previous IPS panel.

What do you consider the best deal in used graphics cards?

As others have said, 980ti if you can spend anywhere close to $300. The vast majority will do 1400+ with ease, and at that clock speed it is well placed in between stock 1070 and 1080.

Do you think the 1080 Ti will even be released?

Nvidia likes money, so probably yes. The Titan XP has a limited (though surprisingly large) market. Once everyone who wants one has one, they'll release something else to encourage upgrades for 980ti owners on the fence.

In the market for a Gtx 1070, is there a consensus on which are the best to get?

Can a GTX 1060 max out WoW at 1920x1080?

Fluffy effects added to a "2004 engine" is selling it short. Modern WoW looks quite good at max settings. People play WoW because they keep adding content.

The old "Ultra" you see in benchmarks is roughly 7.5 on the new 1-10 scale they added in patch 7.0 (a week ago). 10 is very demanding. It's mostly better shadows, more draw distance, and more grass density. At 1080p you should have no issues at all. However, at 4k even a GTX1080 struggles to...

Gears of War Ultimate Edition

It came out today. $29.99. 53GB download. Early reports say it runs like crap on some AMD cards (with visual artifacts to boot). Also, no GSYNC, forced vsync, forced borderless windowed mode, and everything else you've come to expect from windows store games.
