Issues with new build / a8n sli

3400+ on socket 939

I know im not trying to say that the chips is socket 754. when i mentioned socket 754 i was refering to my current set up. 2.2 Ghz but with ht of 800Mhz not 1Ghz. but as i ahve said, i run my chammer at 1Ghz HT no worries, and 754 is never ment to be 1Ghz, so im just trying to work out what...

3400+ on socket 939

i found someone selling these on ebay, the only diff is the HT speed of 800 on the 3400+ and 1Ghz on the 3500+. anyone got one or no anyone who has one of these chips and can they run be set to 1ghz on the motherboard? i run my 3200+ hammer at 1ghz on this system. any thaughts? karlos

Quick sound card stuff

I have a audigy 1 platinum EX, and even though theres all these fancy, 24bit onbaord audios, i would never swap my card out for onboard sound ( exception bieng nv soundstorm, but thats gone now, never to return :( ) karlos

SATA vs. IDE

i considered the raptor, but the i realisesd the diamon max 10 gave me the 200Gb of space for £5 more than the 36GB raptor, yet only slightly slower. I think the raptors price per GB is VERY disprapotionate to the actual diffrence you will see performance wise. karlos

well, pixel shader 3.0, whilst debatable, isnt there for r3/4xx parts. over next 3 years, will be important feature. worth considering. dont get me wrong, r 4xx is very strong architecture, specially when u consder its nothing more that r3xx on steroids. i reccon the XL possibly the better buy...

Good PC for photo editing?

Im a self proclaimed amd fanboi, but i would be going p4 for a photshop rig. My personal view is that p4's lend themselves a little better for 2d / desktop tasks, specially with HT. Having said that, make sure its a 6xx cpu, i wouldent buy any processor without AMD64 support ( sorry, how rude...

ive just thaught, particuarly with the x850, u order it now, u get it all together end of march, ur well happy, april finishes, then in may ati relese R520. and suddenly your x850 is worth loads less. i would probably wait till may, see what the r520 solutions cost, but i think buying a x850 xt...

Why does it seem everyone is recommending Corsair Value Select recently?

I reccomend twinmoss, runs much tighter that rated timing wise, with no voltage tweeks either!! ( well winbond based stuff does anyway ) karlos

hmm not so sure. value rams ok, but just beacuse he dosent want to o/c dosent mean he good ram is a no no. A64 loves low latentcy, whilst u can get cheap ram from crucial etc and its cas 3. nasty. my twinmoss was well cheap, but carefull selection ( i.e getting the winbond chipped dimms )...
