Upgrading advice

I guess it's wiser to go with AM3 or LGA 1156, socket longevity is important. Right now, i'm leaning toward AMD due to lower price point. Time to research and read. Thanks for the feedback!

Upgrading advice

My current cpu and mb: E6400 775DUAL-VSTA I thought about just buying a P5Q Pro and OC the E6400 up to 2.8/3.2GHz (if possible), but i'm not sure if i should go that way. I also thought about going AMD (e.g. Athlon II x4 or x2/x3+unlocking/luck)] Intel: E6400 + $120 mb AMD...

Yes, i'm pretty sure of that. Vcore 1.12v-1.14v and freq 1596MHz, while browsing or any other less intensive task (the core temp also decreases as expected). Vcore 1.26v-1.28v and freq 2128MHz, while decoding multiple HD video streams or anything demanding.

Thanks, didn't know the right name. But why does winxp need this option when it works on linux (ubuntu)? isn't there any hotfix for this (w/o updating for the 2.6a bios)?

Has anyone be able to get the acpi to work with this board on winxp? it works just fine on linux but i can't get it to lower the cpu frequency and vcore when i'm just browsing or not doing anything demanding. (e6400, Windows XP SP2, via hyperionpro v5.11a)

Thanks everyone. I would wait if i could but unfortunately i need to buy it now. My initial thought was to go with option 2 and get a better video card (something like a gf 7300gt ddr3 would be ideal) or a good oc mb with IGP from nvidia or ati later on.
