CPU will die or degrade?

Lets not talk about overclocking it. As simple as it is, chances are its transistor failure or over heated issues. So do they degrade or just die off?

THe PS2 has come out with a mini version. Its really small however, I heard that an unmod version suffer from heat issues. Meaning you can't play more than 2 hours. Is that the case? and if a mod version, is it smooth now? i mean without problem
