AMD or Intel?, what way should I go??

I've been with the Intel camp ever since my 486 DX/2-66 and I've just recently gotten myself a T-bird 1000. Much better than my previous P3-550 at 770. And dirt cheap too! I highly recommend getting an AMD. But if you really wanna stay with Intel, got for the 815E chipset boards. For AMD, use...

DURON OCing .... How much ?

Firstly, if you wanted to overclock the P3, you shouldn't be going for a 133MHz FSB chip. The Duron is a no-brainer overclock. Just need to get those L1 bridges closed and a motherboard that allows multiplier tweaking. In any case, I'd highly recommend the AMD chip, Duron OR T-Bird. They're both...

Need Motherboard advice

I would highly recommend the 815E chipset. The only variable here is the brand. I personally prefer Abit, but after using MSI, I would recommend it without any hesitation. Besides, it's cheaper. Overclocking wise, it loses a bit to the Abit boards, but it's not like you'll be fiddling with the...

The main reason for flip chip packaging was to put the core on the outside, to assist in heat dissipation. The layer of whatever that they put on it is very thin, and lapping is err... dangerous. Not recommended unless you're VERY careful. Oh well.

Indication of a unsuscessful multiplier un-lock

Yup, means that you probably didn't quite close the gaps. Take your eraser out and try again. I used a mechanical pencil with high quality Pilot HB leads. Works beautifully.

Thermal Pad on FOP32-1 vs. Arctic Silver stuff

In my experience, the thermal pad that comes with the HSF is a bit too think and doesn't conduct heat that well. You could probably use it first, but lay off the overclocking if you can until you get your hands on a tube of artic silver (not the adhesive)

Hang on, you LAPPED your coppermine processor??? You're not supposed to do that to Coppermine chips! PPGA chips are fine, but not on FCPGA ones. Get ready to buy another CPU.

If I were you, I wouldn't try overclocking the thing first until I can resolve whatever's making the chip go up to 90C. At the temp, it's not going to last very long. Try reseating your HSF properly and use a little thermal paste. Don't put more than an average nose-picking yield. The stuff...

K6-2 500 Advice

Yeah, the Durons are now so cheap that i would spend any more money upgrading any K6/2 system. Personally, I've not tried the KM133 chipset, so I can't say anything about the onboard video. But unless you're really on a tight budget, go for the KT133.
