A question about a Case site

I just stumbled across www.colorcases.com (not Colorcase; they've been around for a while). Can anyone tell me if they're reliable? Their prices seem good for what they offer - cases with windows and fans preinstalled...

Quick question on an ancient computer

Well, not really ancient, but old, regardless. It's an ALi chipset motherboard, I'm guessing probably a K62 or P~166MMX (heatsink is glued or epoxied). I've been asked to get it in working order. All the drives, cards, and whatnot are hooked up correctly, but it won't post. The keyboard...

ISDN line

NICs're cheap; grabbing a $14 Addtron at your local electronics/computer store should be good enough. Hubs are also cheap - I'd rather get just a router on its own, but you can chain hubs together, so it's not really a limitation either way, really just a matter of what you want to pay for.

No...if your BIOS can't see it, Windows sure won't be able to. Try setting the drives to master and slave with the jumpers, rather than cable select.

Uh, make sure that you've got your master/slave jumpers set correctly, but if you do, and everything is plugged in, and you still can't get BIOS to see it, it's very likely a bad drive.

Which is better: DVD-RW or DVD+RW?

I'd choose +RW, but be careful - at least in the case of HP, they're not going to upgrade the drive to write +R discs. I don't know if the other companies with +RW drives will, though I suppose someone has to now that the media is starting to show up. DVD+R should have near perfect compatibility...

Dying hard drive

To be on the safe side, assume soon! Sure, if the hard drive God looks on you lightly, it might last a while - but if he was doing that, you wouldn't have this problem in the first place. New Noises = Bad with hard drives. It's probably going to go soon.

Blurry web pages in win ME

Well, first, check or uncheck "smooth edges of screen fonts" - I think it's under Appearance=>Effects in Display Properties, but I'm not sure under Windows ME. That may solve the problem. You could also go to View=>Text Size in IE and increase your Font Size. Also, you may want to change...

Artic silver, non condctive but compacitive?

Considering how poorly most people apply heatsink compound, I'm sure we would've gotten reports of people with jumped/shorted connections if it was really conductive. Of course, if you're worried, you can alwasy head down to your local Altex (or their website) and by some Type 44 thermal...

Any PC equivalent of Virtual PC on the Mac?

multi region dvd player.. is it possible to get one

Bought an Apex 500A. Hacked the firmware to add a region menu. Works great. Total cost: DVDPlayer $68 @ Circuit City CDR (for firmware update) $.13 I'd say it was worth it.

DVD burner gives "power calibration area error"
