You didn't say what OS you were running, so if this doesn't apply please disregard:
if you already installed XP SP2 you need to disable the Windows Firewall or at least allow VNC as an exception. I've seen dozens of users get all frustrated by MS latest security "feature."
Difference between the Minolta 2300W and 2300DL is just the network adapter. The DL2300 has it, the 2300W doesn't. (I'd think you could pick up a 3rd part network printer addapter for the Minolta with the rebate on the 2300W and still come out on top).
Staples has some good prices on the Minolta Magic Color 2300w here for $700 w/$200 rebate but I've heard of some poor reviews....does anyone use this model? How does it compare to an HP 1500L for $700here?
Opinions appreciated.
Hi. I'm running Win2k and I have both cards working fine but they expand desktop rather than mirror it. This setup is for a classroom envornment, basically I just want the projector to show exactly what is being shown on my monitor. Any suggestions?
Hosted solution preferred. We have about 60 users. Basically the grading system needs to be pass/fail. We're not looking to make people developers just reduce the "how do I..." type of questions in MS Office and the like.
My company is looking for an online training package that offers courses for employee development. Is anyone using an online training service they would recommend?
Human resources is looking to link employee performance bonuses to the completion of basic skills tests in Word, Excel, basic...
Thanks again everyone for your input. Proposal goes into executive commitee Mon 1/27 for reveiw. If politics don't get in the way I'll be merrily on way to building my 1st dual Athlon MP on an Asus A7266-D.
MechBgon: can you provide links for the 760MPX Asus board, SCSI drives, and Athlon2000 MPs you quoted earlier? I'm not finding them @ newegg or hypermicro....
thanks again
Viper: Were useing this server for basically an Access DB. The DB size @93MB isn't the worst I've seen (last place I worked the DB swelled to over 250MB and they wondered why everything was slow ;) ) but its size and architecture (if Access can really be considered a real database :P) coupled...
Awesome mechBgon! You just saved my sorry butt a whole lot overtime! Let me know where I should send a thank you card!
I'm putting together your recommendations for both the Athlon MP and Xeon for my boss to reveiw. Since she isn't very savy on current hardware I think she'll leave it up to me...
While I'm not opposed to buying a ready-made server; such as the refurb Dell suggestion that mechBgon made, I would rather get paid to expand my skills into the server arena if you know what I mean, i.e., I would rather build it myself. Of course budgetary contraints being what they are this...
Behold the power of persuasion!! I have conviced my supervisor that AMD might be a better solution.
Only need 2GB RAM. 4 SCSI drives can be included in proposal if price is reasonable. I've done a very preliminary search @newegg and found a Gigabyte for $240 and Athlon MP 1.2Ghz for $69.00...
Thanks again mechBgon. The links will really help my pitch although its my supervisor (who's a 'she') thats really in the hot-seat (its so much easier being the little guy).
The UPS; SCSI tape drive; and backup software (Arcserve) are already on hand. I agree that a 550watt Power is a good...
