Dead/dying Antec NeoPower 480?

I talked with Antec, and they decided that the best way to deal with this is to just RMA the power supply, before I actually caused any harm to my other parts. Once I received the replacement, I had no problems.

UD Weirdnes..

I think it's ridiculous that they are prompting for usernames/passwords again. I certainly won't be able to get everyone back on... most of them were installed several years ago, and I don't even know who owns the computers now. Oh well, their loss I guess.

UD Stats update

Woo hoo, I'll be breaking 3M team points pretty soon! I probably won't be around for it (exams), so I'll celebrate early :D In other news, my Antec NeoPower 480 power supply gave out after only 6 months in my main box, so the cruncher that scores over 160 in VMWare will be down for a bit...

Yeah, I thought about this, but it shuts down within half a second of turning it on, even when the box has been cold for hours. There is good heatsink contact, so I can't imagine it overheating that fast.

Note: When I mentioned smoke and burning smells, that was a totallly different instance, a totally different computer, and a totally different set of circumstances. I don't want to repeat this with my computer! Note2: I work at a computer helpdesk. I have years of experience troubleshooting...

I would assume that it came from Rosetta WUs all coming in at once... the two days after I still scored > 8000 points per day, though! I did upgrade my main computer so that I can dedicate 768 MB ram to the VMware XP image. This means my virtual computer scores 168 now ;)
