I, like most of the other people who have gotten LCDs, probably won't be going back to CRT. I game regularly and I don't have any problems. I have a Viewsonic VP121B btw. The colors maybe aren't as rich as a CRTs, but the crispness more than makes up for it. The pros outweigh the cons imo.
How does that affect your game performance? Your monitor can't display above a certain fps depending on the refresh rate anyways. Even if you're getting 200 fps in the game, yet your refresh rate is only 60hz, you're effectively seeing only 60fps.
Does newegg make those parts? No. They simply buy them and then sell them. Blame the manufacturers for defects. Probably the reason you see people who have had problems ordered from newegg is because newegg is like one of the biggest places to get parts.
The tradeoff of lower response time for less colors is probably worth it. You really don't notice the lower number of colors that much and I'd much rather have that than a lot of ghosting.
Your comparison is bad mainly because when the gun is redrawing each thing there's a point in which the picture goes away. This causes the flicker effect on lower refresh rates as your brain can notice it better. Run a 60hz refresh rate on a LCD and you won't notice any flicker whatsoever...
