If you want to use the arrow-keys, and the config menu is somehow not working, try /bind leftarrow +moveleft; bind rightarrow +moveright in the console.

I can't beleive that people would call old hardware like that "useless"... especially for someone who might just want to get some work done away from their desk, the laptop is just as useful as the day it was made. Put it up on EBay or in the classifieds, and you could get $50 out of it, no...

Yep. More importantly, does anyone play Q3Pong?? It sorta sucks on the internet due to latency issues and popularity, but it kicks all ass at a LAN party. Try it out!

Linux Distro for Old Laptop

As a sidenote, on my own Powerbook G3 233mhz, I'm running Yellow Dog Linux and I couldn't be happier with it. I originally installed it because it's the only distro that adequately supports the Powerbook hardware out-of-the-box, but i found that it's actually more pleasant to install...

Dude. __HD install__. I'm not talking about trying out Linux either - you boot from the live-CD then run a simple installer to copy the preconfigured distro to the disk, and voila... a lightweight Debian GUI install with minimal effort. See here.

Looking for a good Linux distro...

Here's another recommendation for SuSE - of all the desktop RPM-based distros, I think its easily the best. Mandrake 9.1 as an overall product left me a bit disappointed... easy to install, sure, but I just dont like the setup of the packages. I was always fighting it in some way or another...

Yuck. Try the Morphix LightGUI CD. Sounds like exactly what you want. Morphix is a pre-configured Debian Live-CD distro... it will boot right off the CD, autodetect your hardware, and drop you into a usable GUI immediately - you can do an HD install from there if you like it. Just like...

That's what Microsoft tells you, anyway. I dont know if it holds up in court. Basically, they're distributing a copyrighted work to you - obviously you don't "own" it in the sense that you're authorized to copy and distribute that information, but under normal circumstances you're entitled to...

As an alternative to the DOS suggestion, you could always try booting from a Morphix Linux Live CD and see if the Linux IDE/NTFS code might be able to handle the drive.
