I'm building a PC for my lad and I want to buy 2nd hand CPU and MOBO off ebay. He will use the computer for Gaming and music/video production. I don't have a specific budget but I'm looking for the following:
* Best bang for buck
* Intel CPU, preferably i5 or i7
* Very simple overclock or...
all of a sudden photoshop stopped loading with a aticfx64.dll error. so did adobe premier and Avid Media Composer gave me this error
I have removed my ati drovers and installed the latest beta with no luck. I have a HD6900 series card

Thanks for the reply guys
lot of people saying this over clock if too hot with too hgih voltage, but it seems to be in line with very similar i7 2600k overclock on overclockers.com

what do you guys think?
thanks for the reply guys
yes this is pretty maddening. I don't seem to be able to find a pattern to it, if I swap monitors around and reboot the other monitor will work then they both go blank.
its worrying as I need moth monitors to work on.
is this an inherent problem with the XFX 5770...
I have an XFX 5770 which has dual DVI outputs. I have connected 2 new 24" monitors to both DVI outputs. the first monitor is fine but I can't activate the second. In windows when I click the "detect" button it only finds one monitor. same in the catalyst control centre, only shows one...
durin normal use (web browsing and stuff) temps are just under 40c (ish)
I have pulled the vcore down to 1.35 and it *seems* to be running intel burn in test (on maximum stress) OK. for some reason prome 95 died quite quickly at this voltage.
my temps are now aroun 69-70c

All my NB voltages and stuff are on the minum settings, and its stable.
When I run intel burn in test (linpack) I'm getting temps of like 75c !?!
Is that good or bad?
Thanks guys, very interesting read.
I have managed to get a q6600 running stable @ 3.12gig 1333bus and the ram @419mhz. This is on an MSI-NEO2-FR board with all voltages on auto. I can?t remember the exact numbers off the top of my head.
Looks like I should be happy with this!
"RAM...
I would like an air-cooled Q6600 to run at 3.6gig 1333mhz (9x400 = 3600mhz) with a 1:1 ratio and ddr2-800 ram running at 400mhz .
The board I am looking at is an ASUS P5Q Pro. I am also looking at Geil black dragon 4-4-4-12 ram and a Scythe Zipang cooler.
Is it likely that I will achieve...
