It really works people. All you need to do is sign up for a $1 trial offer, cancel it, get some spam, and refer 8 other people. I was credited for the gift card offer in 6 days.
It might come a little late, but it'll save you lots of cash.
Don't go Alienware.
My Alienware system had no problems with what they shipped, but they neglected to send me my UPS, case key, and some software. I never got them. I just stopped dealing with them.
ABS seems like a good choice.
It would also help to know what kind of games you'll be playing.
MMOs? You need more ram.
FPSs? You need the nicer video card.
It's going to be tough to do either with $600. Especially since you need a monitor, optical drive, etc.
I would say use the 6600GT until you can get a 7800GT or GTX. Your card should run most current games decently, not on High, but playable.
Make $100 more and then come back to this, imo.
a 3000+/3200+ Venice should be quiet even after some overclocking.
those things are eager to OC and they stay pretty cool too. the fan shouldn't be spinning too fast. with stock cooling you should get to at least 2.5ghz.
Personally, I like my 17" Samsung 710n more than my flat 19" NEC CRT.
Having your eyes not hurt after a long gaming session is nice.
It really depends on the person when it comes to displays, so you might want to go try to look at the displays in action at a store.

it's HL2. i would say that it's good and most people would probably agree.
CS:S is a favorite to some and others don't care for it. i like it.
also, DoD:S comes out in a while. it should be downloadable with the account you buy.
I second the dropping of the SLI mobo. Like Ranulf said, about $100 bucks.
If you plan on overclocking, the lower end A64 CPU (3000+ Venice) overclocks very easily to very high speeds. You could shave off about $150 there.
The raptor could also be switched out for a SATA drive. Could...
Microsoft has an extremely hard job of competing with thousands of hackers deliberately trying to break their product. I don't think Mr. Martin understands that Microsoft gets far more attention for security errors because they are the most used. I'm sure other OS companies would be in the...
The 3000+ is really easy to OC. Quite a few people have made it to 2700mhz with stock cooling. I made it to 2500 with fine temperatures on a Shuttle SN25P case and mobo.
I was overclocking a AMD64 3000+ Venice and everything was going great.
I've got value ram so I was trying to get close to 200mhz on it at a 133 divider. The processor easily booted up after going to 300HTTx9 and ran Memtest w/o errors. When Windows XP Home loaded however, things got crazy...
A BIOS update helped for my 3000+ Venice's temp.
Use the Windows software that they include to BIOS flash, people are having a better time with it opposed to a floppy.
