I could see MS integrating an HD-DVD player into the Elite if several conditions are met. First, HD-DVD software sales pick up in Q1 next year because of the cheaper standalone players sold this holiday, cementing HD-DVD as here to stay. Second, cost of bare HD-DVD drives have by that point...
Dell Canada doesn't get those amazing coupons like Dell USA. I haven't really kept up with Canadian Dell deals, but they're usually select Inspiron models that are decently priced. I'd tell you to check the www.redflagdeals.com forums but it's down right now since they're undergoing a redesign...
No, the D620 is completely different. Totally different design since it's now a 14" widescreen and not standard ratio. The build quality is very much improved over even the D610. It has a magnesium alloy base and lid, whereas the 600m chassis was plastic.
I've extensively used the 600m...
Dell Latitude D620. The higher resolution screen (WXGA+) is grainy though because of a surface coating on it. It's a deal breaker for some people. Otherwise, it gets decent battery life and has additional battery options (extended 9-cell, 6-cell modular bay battery). Available port...
No, you can't upgrade from P-M to Core Duo or Core 2 Duo. Different sockets and require different chipsets.
I got my sister a D620 with the WXGA+ screen, it's definitely grainy caused by whatever coating the LCD manufacturers are using, but I found it perfectly usable.
My sister's D620 WXGA+ screen is the grainiest I've ever seen, but I don't find it unusable. She doesn't mind it at all. In terms of brightness it's a bit brighter than my Z70Va and a D610 Samsung XGA. A fair bit brighter than an old 600m SXGA+ Samsung and a helluva improvement over her...
I have a Z70Va with a 2.26GHz P-M (1.7 pinmodded) and on AC it's idling at 56C when clocked down to 800MHz and undervolted to 0.748V. I've applied Arctic Ceramique and it's making good contact.
I'm pretty sure that the temperature reported is higher than it is. The area above and beneath...
Just browsed through HP USA and customized the newer dv2000t (god damn HP Canada sucks in comparison), I think that would be a better deal than the dv1000t!
$1038.99 plus a $50 mail-in-rebate that brings it down to $989 gets you:
Core(TM) Duo processor T2050
128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go...
The Inspiron 640m and e1405 are the exact same computer, it's called 640m on the Dell US Business site and e1405 for Dell US Home. I believe the only difference is e1405 gets the option of Windows Media Centre. The old 600m and 630m/640m are totally different chassis designs.
Touch the heatsink when it's under load and reporting 79C, it should be burning hot if the chip is actually that hot and the heatsink is installed properly. If it's not burning, either it's not seated correctly or the sensor reading is totally off.
Wtf? He's looking at 12-14" laptops, already says he doesn't do heavy gaming and you're suggesting a 15.4" of average weight and size (read: bulky) with a powerhungry X1600? Even if you wanted to cram a midrange GPU down his throat you could've mentioned the 14" Asus A8Jm and W3J, and Compal...
Cheesehead made a typo, the HGL30 is Core Duo, not P-M so it is a pretty decent deal. The go7600 on it seems a bit underclocked though, but still destroys the go7400 and X1400.

Seems like these would compete too much against the Z-series. The Z61t is pretty thin and light, and other than the lack of dedicated graphics and higher capacity battery options it very closely compares with the Dell D620 already. Actually better than the D620 since it has more ports.
The...
Oh yah that's true. The HP dv6000z can be customized with the TL-56 on the HP USA site but other than that the higher clocked Turion X2's are MIA. Other than the possibility that AMD simply can't produce enough of the higher clocked Turion X2's, it could also be that the manufacturers don't...
