they said Ice lake is on 10nm+:
"Basic information on the Ice Lake architecture has been published over on Intel's codename decoder, officially confirming for the first time the existence of the architecture and that it will be made on Intel's 10nm+ process."...
So, we will see more Cannon Lake SKUs next year, but not Ice Lake? I believe that Intel said Cannon Lake is 10nm and Ice Lake 10nm+, but from the earnings call it did not sound like 10nm+ would have any chance of making it in 2019.
Hi James,
I have a question about Ryzen laptops. So far, the reception is a bit hit and miss. On the good side is that the iGPU beats any Intel iGPU by a large margin and also the CPU performance is quite good. On the bad side, the main criticism is that battery life is poor compared with...
About LPDDR3 memory: Raven ridge does not support this, but that may not be as important as you think it is.
The advantage of LPDDR3 is much lower idle power. The 2500U draws 5.9W idle, the i5-8550U draws 4.1W (according to notebookcheck).
That's great, but what if you want decent graphics...
Does anyone think Raven Ridge with 2GB of HBM + dual DDR4 controllers would be a good idea? The Vega iGPU would use HBCC to control caching between main memory and faster HBM.
I think the reason that Epyc is proving so popular is the amount out I/O it provides - 128 PCIe lanes.
4 years ago 40 PCIe lanes were considered adequate for a server, but times have changed. These days servers are being packed with SSDs connected via NVMe - that chews through a lot of PCIe...
I think this is closer to the truth. Intel has won their recent EU appeal, because EU wasn't able to prove that the loyalty rebates were harming competition.
From the specs, it looks like AMD will score a home run on this one.
There's just one thing, will they have the actual servers ready to roll on launch, or do OEMs like Dell and HP need another few months to incorporate Naples into their product?
