Refer to the license agreement. When you upgraded to Windows 10, you effectively surrendered your Windows 7 license. Whatever floats your boat.

Need DDR2-800 memory

I usually go with Samsung or Hynix as well. Old RAM is jacked up in price. Still a bargain at $150, compared to 2009.

MS pays $10K for win 10 upgrade issues?

Wait,if she went to Windows 10 on her on free will and didn't do a backup, then it's the end user problem. You have a PC for business use and no backup before jumping ship? Technical support is not god; they can't wave a magic wand and make your issues disappear.

A problem with RMA and lesson learned, take a picture before you send it back. It's he said/she said, but was your package insured? Hopefully your card provider takes your side on the dispute.

It's 2016. Why an 8GB limit?

This is like my Asus laptop of mine from 2009, the specs said 4GB of DDR2 was the max. It had two slots, ended up buying 8GB kit, dropped it in without incident. More than likely, I would trust Intel on their specs for chipset / processor. Of course, the memory controller has moved to processor. :)

Format new drive before cloning old drive to it?

I used to full format. I recently cloned a hdd to ssd with ATI 2016 without formatting the ssd and without issue. Edit#1: Damn autocorrect.

Is Win10 still free from 8 after sale ends?

@sm625, were you doing the upgrade via USB flash drive created with Media Creation Tool? Just curious because I was was rolled back to Windows 7 over the weekend when I attempted via USB flash drive, but was fine with Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant.

I was shocked when I open my new ssd

It is like the data cable that comes with GoPhone on AT&T. Buy a longer one if you need it, it's cheap these days.

Which dell latitude to keep? E6510 or E5430

My nod is also for E5430 based on given information. Performance is similar in the CPU. Are you planning to go Windows 10? The latter is also 2 generations later. I would probably choose Samsung over Crucial in terms of storage. How important is the keyboard to you?

Please Recommend cheap reliable laptop for wife(and me)

If anyone finds a cheap and upgradeable laptop, please share. Even eBay is random luck of draw. I ended up with a HP Elitebook 840 G1 with an i5-4300U 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, and 1600x900 non touch display for $162. The kicker, it still has 17 months left on the warranty. Doesn't have an optical...

HP Pavilion dv7 1285dx, worth the effort?

I have a Dell Studio XPS 1340 with a P8600, 8GB RAM, and 240GB SSD running Windows 7 just fine. It's a toss up given the fact that I recently scored a HP Elitebook 840 G1 (i5-4300U, 4GB RAM, and 500GB HDD, 1600x900 display) on eBay for $162. Even a 4th generation i5 will run circles around it...
