Mac OS X Software install on external HDD

Ok. What you need to do is install Mac OS X on the external HD. The HD is FireWire, right? Then, after you're done with that go to Apple -> System Preferences -> Start Up Disk -> Select your 30GB HD. That will work, trust me, I'm a mac expert. :D Install Mac OS X on the 2nd drive as...

Try a WinXP boot floppy, see if that works and then put the CD in the drive and run setup.exe from there; after you change it to D: (or whatever your drive is) and then put in setup.exe in dos. See if that works.

Thanks for the replys, please please share your ideas as I really want to get this working...even if you don't know exactly! The compaq BIOS is setup to start from a cd then floppy then HD, I have a Win98 boot disk, I guess I could try and remake one from a computer downstairs... The floppy...
