Sound Quality on NForce 2

I own an A7N8X and have an older computer with an Audigy X-Gamer. The SoundStorm system on the Asus is as good if not better than the Audigy. I think the general concensus (for the Asus anyway) is that the onboard sound is better than anything other than the Audigy 2 and perhaps the Santa Cruz...

EVERYBODY list your idle temps and heatsink

Heh I can choose any idle temp I want, since I have fan-controllers for every fan in my rig. It's more about noise than anything else.

Help! My ASUS A7N8X Motherboard Will Not Boot Up Now!

Nforce2-which memory

Well last night I decided to see what this rev 3.2 PC2700 OCZ could do and set it to 2-2-2-2 (from 3-2-2-2). That's 2x256 sticks running at 278mhz. After 4 hours of Dark Age of Camelot (which pushes my system pretty hard), and another few hours of BF1942 it's obviously stable. $86.

Solutions to most problems with A7N8X

From experience I'll add that there are some BIOS tweaks required for some Samsung RAM (not mentioned in the FAQ).

A7N8X success @ 200

Go to www.amdmb.com Not many from what I can see. The voltages on the a7n8x aren't as good as the Epox.

All NForce2 MBs auto unlock XP Tbred_B, YES or NO?

The answer is no. At least with the A7N8X. Even BIOS C will not auto-unlock the CPU multipliers. And, BTW, Athlon 1800 comes factory unlocked IIRC so it doesn't count.

Ah... just thought I'd add that I'm running PC2700 OCZ CL2 rev 3.2 (2x256) at 3-2-2-2 on an Asus a7n8x. I'd probably buy 1 stick of 512 if I were to do it again. But that's water under the bridge.

Well, when I say OCing... I mean serious OCing, not just bumping the FSB till it cacks, but bumping the voltages and pontentially destroying your CPU or RAM. It comes down to what mobo you're going to buy. I've seen a few Asus hit 200/400 FSB at www.amdmb.com, but not many. If you go Epox...

Personally I'd take a rain check and wait for the NV30. At that point the Radeon 9700 will come down in price; and then you can own a really stellar gaming card if you can't afford the GeforceFX. IMO, a "super" ti4200 is going to give you more bang-for-buck than a ti4600. My OCed Albatron is...

If you're getting endless loop boots, #1 thing is what I suggested: clear your CMOS. If you don't do that first, you're shooting yourself in the foot.
