Seagate consistently win awards for low noise + high speed. Ive predominantly used seagates for 11 years now, i havent got a single complaint about them, bloody fast, bloody quiet, bloody good warranty. :)
if your using an onboard or stand alone sound card of the cheaper generic variety, they tend to rely on the CPU for all their processing, this can sap up to 10% of a CPU core and as such i would always recommend buying a quality stand alone sound card that is truly capable of hardware...
