Thanks for the response. I think I've fixed it, and so far (in what may be more amazing) it's keeping the settings. By getting rid of the front porch and back porch under "Advanced Timing" under "Change Resolution". As far as I know, that's what the "reduce DVI frequency" option for ATI...

doom3 only on win2000 and winxp

I'd be pretty surprised if D3 didn't run on 95/98; I suspect the 2k/XP only bit is just to avoid handling tech support for older systems.

Sorry, the original comment that got me started was stnicralisk saying "OpenGL actually takes skill to program" -- something I don't really agree with, speaking as someone who has used both APIs.

That's at least understandable, but I don't think I'd use the term 'skill' to describe what it takes to manage said extensions. Either way, the skill in developing 3d graphics lies in algorithm design, the API has little to do with this beyond which hardware features it enables.

I'm curious as to where that sentiment comes from -- in my experience programming for both APIs, OpenGL is the easier one to write code for, DirectX just supports more hardware features at the API level.

UPDATE: WOW. This is AMAZING.

Sorry, I forgot to mention brightness, I kind of take it as given ;) But you can adjust the brightness level of the backlight and the color balance, and that's it. It's a digital signal, there's no need for any other settings -- the geometry and contrast are perfect pretty much by definition...

Are there any actual 6800 Ultras or GTs with dual DVI in stock?

See title; planning on picking up one of these cards in the near future, but most of the cards I've found in stock have been GTs and most GTs have dvi/vga outputs. Most ultras have dual dvi, and I'd pay the price premium for that alone and call the better cooling and marginal clockspeed gain a...

UPDATE: WOW. This is AMAZING.

If you're connecting it by DVI (which you should be), the only thing you can calibrate is color balance. Everything else is automatic.

sub-$75 2.1 speakers

I personally love my JBL Creatures (Creature II availible via NewEgg). Originally purchased them due to the relatively low desktop impact, but they turned out to be very nice speakers.
