E2160 only 2.25Ghz?

I would recommend trying the BSEL mod for that board. I have a similar board (AsRock Conroe1333-667, 945 chipset), in which my L2 E2160 would only fire up at 233 or thereabouts. I knew it would go higher as it used to do 280+ stable from BIOS on my old Asrock Dual-VSTA board. Anyway...

Familiarity, small footprint (if you can bear leaving it running in the background, that is.. ;) ) , and it gives you some nice monitoring/reg tweak options too.

Rivatuner. Set clocks, then close program. Ok, means you have to fire up Rivatuner every time you wish to bump your clocks up, but that's how I do it here. Leave the card stock for when I'm just fiddling about, and then bump the clock up for gaming.

Heh. Well, if you have any thermal paste left, I'd try cleaning and reseating the heatsink. Make sure the 4 pushpins are clicking into place comfortably. They can be a right pain in the neck to get right sometimes, especially when the board is mounted in the case, with the way the board...

I doubt anything is fried. If it is shutting down due to thermal over load, it's doing it's job by throwing it's hand in and switching off *before* anything starts to fry, so you should be OK. I see no reason why the CPU temp monitor should be out by any degree, so those high temps do suggest...

74C? Wow. First thing I would check is the CPU heatsink & fan assembly. Check it's sitting nice and flush, and that the thermal pad/paste is OK.

I'd suggest the USB ports in your new computer have not got quite enough grunt, powerwise, to power your external drive. Have you got the option to plug an external PSU to your external drive? If so, try that and see if that clears it up. Not all USB ports are created equal, y'see. Some...

ide controller card not being recognized

I had this problem with my 0680. All devices shown at boot. I could F11 boot select my drives and start up with them if I liked... Weird thing was, it would show a single IDE drive in XP with the driver (quite an old one, 2003 or 2004 I seem to recall at the time) from Windows Update, but...

My experience with Hackintosh

Conroe 1333-D667 overclocking confirmed!

Another heads up for this board, combined with an E2160 L2 stepping. I used to have a VIA chipset Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA. With the VSTA, I was able to get up to 290FSB from BIOS, although things did go a little shaky now and again. This, combined with an AGP 7600GS. I ended up settling on...

Mr Vain : Previous best was just over 300FSB I think, that was with the 1.4 BIOS that came with the board. However, things were a bit flakey but to be fair that was before I discovered the joys of fine-tuning the BIOS settings (everything was on Auto, just FSB and CPU Async set) for stability...
