It's not an IDE problem, but with Ethernet driver and NAM, I found out that some of packets arrived corrupted. So I reverse them back to 6.39 and it works fine now
i have never heard of somebody making his board trash just because of bios update. Except very strange coincidence, when your fuse blow off while you are updating bios:)
I think I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the times, but sometimes after restart it just get stuck. I think it may be related to S!/S3 stand by modes. Can you try to switch them all off in BIOS to see if it is still happening?
I saw such behaviour with one of my old boards. Problem was that bottom of the board was touching a conductive materiql and as result some paths got shortcuted. Make sure that your board is not sitting on the case backplate. Best way is actualy to take it off the case and run it hust on a table
