If you're pretty confident and have the right tools you can try to see if you can replace the fan. First, try to find a replacement fan before you waste your time opening it up.
I woudn't really mess with the processes unless you know exactly what each one is for. (I personally don't)
The only things I would mess with are any programs that may startup in the beginning automatically. You can check this by looking at what's loaded in the right hand side of the taskbar...
