Inspiron 8600 laptop HDD issues

OS reinstall isn't an option.. the boot cd can see the HDD but won't read it or write to it (booting into the System REcovery thing, for example, and typing "FORMAT C:" results in a invalid disk error.. Also, the drive isn't even listed in BIOS so the machine doesn't know it's there apparently...

Inspiron 8600 laptop HDD issues

Had a HDD appear to crap out on me in my girlfriends laptop several months back.. Booted it up one day and got "Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 Failure. No bootable device available" Threw a brand new IDE drive in and after a month or so of use, same thing happened.. it's been sitting...

screen flashing every couple of seconds, then getting "USB Device not recognized" error

it never locks up.... however, right after the screen comes back on i cant use the mouse/kb for anything at all. i havent tried seeing if the problem occurs in bios, i suppose that's the next place to check..

The other day I started having a problem where whenever I would leave my machine running long enough idle, when I came back my screen was all messed up.. Kind of beige, and the icons from the taskbar (XP) had moved to the upper corner and where kind of ghosted... I couldn't really interact with...

uh oh... machine wont boot, no beeps

ding ding... looks liek teh culprit was teh PSU all along (i should've done these tests earlier) ... after a week of running PC Probe II to diagnose etc... my vcore voltage has been jumping around a good bit.. seems like every morning when I wake up theres 7 or 8 warnings popped up about it...

ok. i dont know anything about laptops, but i just built this... any good?

have one in my PC.. didnt even really care about the CD-RW but you cant get anything else

uh oh... machine wont boot, no beeps

ok.. replaced the motherboard (put an A8N-E in the machine.. i dont SLI) .... problem doesn't appear to have gone away. the power supply is a SparklePower SLP550-SLI .. the CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ... i'm wondering if it might be the CPU that's behind all of this? my USB busses...

how did you get the RMA#? when i went to the ASUS site it pretty much said the warranty has to be handled by the reseller.. unless i read it wrong

I'll try a RAM re-seat when I get home from work this afternoon. I ran MemTest86+ for 8 hours overnight and couldn't yield any errors, though when I rebooted the machine it froze after recognizing the processor again. I'm thinking the problem has to either be the PSU or the motherboard at this...

I ran memtest86, though I only ran it for 1 test.. No errors popped up. I'll attempt a longer run at it when I go to sleep tonight. I *believe* the PSU is made by Thermaltake. I'm thinking its 500W As for the components here's a paste from Sandra SiSoftware Sandra Processor Model...
