It looks like the distance between x16/x8_1 and x8_2B is 3 slots. The board comes with SLI bridges that look longer than normal ones. It gives extra room between them for better cooling.
If an extra 200-300MHz can be had by replacing the TIM between CPU die and IHS, then Ivy would be in the Sandy neighborhood, but using less voltage. I would delid just to decrease the temps at 4.4-4.5GHz.
The Coollaboratory Luiquid Metal Pro is conductive, but you could use a thin bead of...
Good to go like the others said. 850-1000 Watt PSUs aren't needed anymore (for the most part). Unless you're running 3 or 4 video cards 400-750W is fine.
2133 MHz memory speed seems to be the sweet spot for Ivy Bridge. 1600 is still perfectly fine. If you are going to MicroCenter, get the Samsung Green DDR3 1600 8GB (4GBx2) kit. It's 30nm low profile RAM 1.35v. It overclocks very well.
I used an OCZ and Enermax PSU for my Ultra-Ds. The OCZ had the adjustments for the 12v/3.3v/5v levels with LEDs to indicate status (Green/Yellow/Red). Haven't had a problem yet. Still running strong since late 2005.
The mSATA drive would be best used as cache for a larger HDD using Intel's Smart Response feature or for Rapid Start.
Use your Crucial M4 for boot (OS).
You can upgrade the mSATA drive to something larger (256GB) and then use it as a boot drive, but I do believe the mSATA port is SATA II...
I'm going to use a Corsair Obsidian 800D. I got one for $200 with a TigerDirect sale and Bing offer in late 2010. :) Need to order the SATA III and USB 3.0 upgrades.
I want a board that has the PLX chip so more PCI-E bandwidth will be available. I almost went with X79, but wanted something...
I think I have finally narrowed down my choice for motherboard for my new build from the two in my title.
I figure I'll get a feature rich board that should last me many years. I did the compare feature on ASUS's website, but I can't decide which would be the better choice. I plan on doing...
I changed the HSF on one of my Ultra-Ds. Can't remember what I used. Anyone have a picture of the original HSF? I only have one of the MBs now, so I can't tell if it's original or not.
I'm interested in the new MSI Z77 board(s). Still can't decide which way to go for my Ivybridge rig. The MSI BIOS has come a long way. I like how the Windows app looks exactly like the BIOS.
I have 4 GT AP-15s for a push/pull for my H100. When I finally get my computer up and running, I'll post how they do.
I'm still trying to decide if I want to pull in fresh air or push out warm air. Using a Corsair 800D.
I have found that different review sites rank certain pastes differently. The PK-1 is usually at the top of the list. It really depends on the hardware being used.

I have two of those MBs. I had a problem with the date and time not keeping current (and BIOS retaining settings) when the computer was off. Replacing the battery fixed the problem.
I would make sure the battery is good and that it is seated properly. Did you check the clear CMOS jumper?
The Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3 is on my short-list. I don't care about SLI/Crossfire, but those PCI-E slots and the extra 16 PCI-E lanes can be used for other devices. I still can't decide which Z77 board to get. I do like the ASUS' BIOS the best (MSI's is a very close second). Plus, the ASUS...
