So if I have my facts straight, PCIe mainly uses 3.3V and CPUs/chipsets/memory use less than 1.5 volts. However, ATX supplies still put most of their power on the 12V rail and then motherboards have to downconvert to the lower voltages using expensive and wasteful voltage regulators. If there...

Chipset failure? - please help

I guess it's possible there's a connection failure, but the timing of it seems too coincidental that I had just transfered tons of data and then this shows up. I had left the computer on for over a year before the problem showed up and it had 99.9% uptime and I had never seen any problems...

I would do that on a normal PC, but this is one of those super tiny computers that doesn't have space for a cable. When you install the HD, you push it into a connector on the mobo and then secure it by screwing the HD down to the mobo. So, there really is no cable to fail, it's just a connector...

Eclipse on OSX == Slooooooooooow

QFT. I have to use eclipse at work because our debugger only works in eclipse, but I don't use it for editing. I use Slick Edit for that. I have better things to do with my time than to wait around for eclipse.

Performance problems using named pipes (embedded C)

So, I've been working on this and tweaking my implementation, and I've been able to get the average lookup time to be about 60% faster by using a trie. YAY. The implementation of the thread still doesn't meet the timing requirements, but I'm looking at optimizations in other areas of the code...

Both are excellent ideas! I don't know why I didn't think of using a hash table. I have never heard of a trei data structure before, so I looked it up online. It looks like it's basically a tree of linked lists. It would be interesting to try both implementations and see which one gives...
