Ready for a laugh?
When I removed the fan on the card I couldn't believe what I saw.
There was so much dust clogged up on the heat sink that it must have been blocking the airflow. I mean it was thick!
Temps now...
idle 50
load 73
better than
idle 60
load 96
wouldn't agree...
It's the one slot design.
I have 2 slots free so it has plenty of room to breath.
I've just tested the card with a huge fan blowing on it and that keeps the temps down a bit and stops it from crashing.
But I will do what martin said and re-seat the heatsink with some new thermal paste...

i have a damn good case with excellent airflow
my p4 2.8 is running very nicely at 3.4 but this card just seems to get too damn hot!

To me the card shouldn't be overheating.
I'm not overclocking it.
I have good quality components and a very well ventilated and cooled case but this sucker just gets so damn hot.
I've searched the net for another cooling solution but all there is out at the moment is the nv silencer 5...
