Vista Performance, Compatibility and Reliability Packs are out

That's probably because the sleep fix is in the Compatibility pack (938194) I installed both yesterday and my black screen problem is now gone w/ Geforce 8500GT + Vista x64. :)

Changing the "Shut Down" button in Vista

Well, the whole point is that it is not 'on' when it is sleeping. Do you use S3 sleep mode (turns all fans off, etc). Since you 'usually just turn it on to check the forums or my e-mail', wouldn't you rather have it turn on in a couple of seconds instead of a minute+? According to...

32 or 64 bit vista?

Not necessarily - that rumor spread rapidly and incorrectly. They stated that their server OS's (after Windows Server 2008) would only ship in 64-bit. There have been no statements about future client OS's (i.e. Vista successor)...

Vista Boots and Shuts down slow

You might want to check out the Event Viewer to see what is slowing down the boot/shutdown process. Start -> Event Viewer Then in the tree view, select: Applications and Services Log > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnostics-Performance > Operational Then sort the task category and look...

I'm buying another unit...

Completely depends on if you are comfortable with overclocking. The E4300 can probably be taken to 3.0Ghz pretty easily and is roughly 20% faster clock for clock than the X2. So you could really get a lot more performance for your dollar that way. If you don't plan to OC, than the X2 may...

E4300 Overclocks?

Vista fast sleep

I had many of the same issues as folks on this thread - when resuming from sleep the computer would come "on" (power light), but nothing on the screen. I'd usually have to reset (or sometimes even cut the power) for it to come back. My build: Gigabyte 965P-DS3, Core 2 E4300, GeForce 8500GT...

Gigabyte has released a passively cooled 8500GT for around $100... they are out of stock but should be back soon. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125062 Now that RV610/630 have been delayed until June, I'm going to just take the leap on a 8500GT for my new rig...

whats the best passively cooled video card i can get?

E4300 - better to run at 1:1 ?

I think the reason most people recommend 1:1 is that it allows you to get to higher processor speeds without pushing the RAM past 800MHz. If you're happy with 2.7GHz I don't see any reason to not use 3:4 assuming your RAM is rated for that speed.

Just saw newegg selling E4300 at 135 a piece

Yeah, saw that too... it's been on a pretty steady drop from around $160 the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it will get close to $113 in the next few weeks.
