quiet 80mm fan for heatsink?

Get panaflo/stealth if you want really quite. Prefer panaflo since stealth are whiny. Get an adjustable if you just want your computer quite for a part of the day. Hunt for NMB fans if you want cheap quite. Or do the 7v trick/ solder resistors onto a fan if you don't want to buy something new.

Temperature spikes?

I would keep the monitoring software on all the time and keep a log or something. Note any serious oddities. Also, mid-50's or low temp is nothing to be worried about unless there is something weird.

fluid bearing fans

Fluid bearing is really just modified sleeve bearing. Open up a sleeve bearing fan and there is a film of grease or something, which is where the name fluid/sleeve comes from. So, yes panaflos are fluid bearing.

what is the best heatsink right now

SK7 and AX7 are pretty good and a bit cheaper than SLK-800/900.

Glacialtech Igloo 2500

I have this and several other HS. The performance is okay and it's a bit on the loud/higher pitch side. GC68 is better for low price and SK/AX/ALK series is better for performance.

AX-01 case and 1800xp running kinda hot- looking for good way to cool down-

Use a HSF from thermalright. Zalmans are low noise, but also fairly bad at cooling. Besides, if you have 5 fans, noise isn't a factor anyway. I recommend the SK7, which is almost as good as SLK-800 but smaller, slighter, and cheaper.

Which case is better for building a quiet computer? Aluminum or Steel?

newb fan question

60mm fan is primarily for the good old days when CPU's aren't very hot and a 60mm can do their job. Also, some mobo don't have nice clearing around the CPU to allow you to use a 80MMHSF combo. Generally case fans should be 80mm or bigger. If you want to suck air out, but it in the back. However...

If I switch heatsinks, what will I need to do?

The bottom to a heatsink is not perfectly flat. Therefore, you need something to microcosmic gaps between the HSF and CPU core. If the contact is bad, you CPU fries and stuff. Therefore, you apply either(exclusive) a thermal pad or thermal grease to provide a smooth contact. Pads are cleaner...

Problem with Sunbeam Rheobus. 12V line drops to 11.5V and makes LED fans dim. Possible mod to fix the LED's?

First, by specification, manufactures are given at least 5% wiggle room. That is, a sytem promising to output 12V can legally do anywhere from 11.4-12.6. Second, anything that consumes power acts like a resistors. Having LED in series with each other involves having the 1st acting as a resistor...

need some suggestion here.

Keep in mind the dimension of a normal case. It's more like retangle than a cube. Also, make a plan. Things can, and will go wrong.

No. Read carefully, max combined output = 245W probably notes the max combined output of the 5.5V and 3.0V and excludes the 12V. In any event, if you don't have enough power, you should crash, not have your fan slow down. A fan is only like 2-5Watts anyway. I doubt that little makes a...
