Someone on Overclock.net who already tried this is reporting disappointing results: performance between 580 SLI and Tri-SLI.
Personally I have never trusted these dual-GPU cards; they always seem to be way too much hassle for the money.
If you are playing in V-sync that explains your problem right there. Seriously, disable that unless you enjoy shitty FPS that vary wildly and input lag. If you are very sensitive to the tearing that happens without V-sync, get a 120hz monitor or try using V-sync in conjunction with triple...
Looking at the 'newest' Amazon review, someone mentions 'checkerboarding in 3D that makes it 720p instead of 1080p in each eye' or something to that effect. What does that really mean? Not a true 1080p 3D signal?
So many horribly wrong replies.
BC2 is a heavily CPU-optimized game. You want a Quadcore CPU. Preferably an i5 or i7 or the AMD equivalent, not a C2Q (older architecture), and definitely not a C2D.
BF3 will doubtless be the same because it will also use the Frostbite engine. Also, a number of...
What a way to piss on your customers: here, buy our most expensive video card; no, don't mind us as we ship the non-shit version a few months later.
If I didn't need Nvidia for solid 3D gaming, I'd think long and hard about buying another Nvidia product.
I AM ANGRY THAT YOU ENJOYED YOUR PURCHASE LET ME TELL YOU HOW YOU SHOULD THINK.
Seriously guy, you're pathetic.
Signed,
Plasma owner, but also a decent human being.
Not sure what kind of defective screen you ended up with, but the XPS 17 screen is bright and clear. No problem with viewing angles, either. This is the 3D screen, if that matters. Maybe the non-3D screen isn't as good? Maybe it's matte and that muddies things?
And the XPS 15 screen is not "one...
Wrong. You can rationalize all day but high-end holds symbolic and psychological importance for market share in the overall "gamer's" market.
Nvidia's failure to produce video cards with more than 1.5 GB vRAM this gen is an embarrassment for a company that's always prided itself on producing...
Thanks. Is there a reason this isn't enabled by default, unlike most other forums?
(Since is the internet, let me post-preface by saying that I'm not trying to be a dick.)
Whoever can open up the bottleneck of GTX 580 Tri-SLI at 2500x1600 (or equivalent-level performance) will win my money. At that resolution, and with those cards, the best i7 processor is still a hard bottleneck in a number of games, according to GURU3D.com.
That's quite a dumb layout. If they were going to put the two 16x slots right next to each other, they should have at least added the option of populating the third slot so that you could run slots 1 and 3 at 8x each rather than fixing slot 3 at 4x.
Still, your case is the best for air cooling...
Save yourself the trouble, I can tell you now that Nvidia cards have the same problem. It's funny because if you are running identical monitors in Surround, downclocking works. But if you are just running random multiple monitors, the clocks and temps rise.
