Power Supplies with too high a rating

The online calculator you're using totally exaggerates the power need of your system. Pay attention to the Kill-a-Watt , it s quite accurate, within about 1%. The 200w/245W AC you are measuring tells us a lot of things. You don't list the model number of your PSU, but if it is not more...

Much worse than that has been reported: early HD failure due to overheating is not an uncommon report about these SilentDrives. I have a sample -- I think it's a badly engineered product. Try the drive silencing / cooling ideas in the articles here

What power supply for this system?

Umm... those numbers for the drives are like 3-4 times what they really are. IBM 75XGPs dissipate ~8W check here WD specifies "spinup" power to be 17W, but idle and seek is just ( & 11W: 120BB specs The Maxtor is similar to the WD. Nothing wrong with going for 450W, but whether you NEED to...
