For just photo editing this is true, but the OP also mentioned potential video editing which does require much more VRAM. A 1 or 2GB GPU will struggle in high resolution video editing.
So roughly about a 5% increase overall with better cooling. The last sentence hit the nail on the head not just for the Asus variant but for any air cooled Vega 64:
If it wasn't for FreeSync Monitors and their much lower price point, Vega would really be hurting at it's $499/$599 price point...AMD needs to be competitive in price/performance on the GPUs alone and not rely on monitor pricing to persuade buyers.
I'd try to get a 4GB GPU...really any 4GB GPU will have enough processing power and VRAM to do plenty of photo/video editing work. 2GB of VRAM could start to become a limitation in certain areas. A 4GB Nvidia 960 or a 4GB AMD RX 560 would both work well and can be had for under $150 new.
Uh Oxide Games/Startdock Entertainment are FAR from untalented developers. This game has been one of the most ambitious games from a tech stand point in the last several years. The Nitrous engine they have developed for this game is one of the most advanced engines i've ever seen. And I believe...
Really disapointed in the increase in price on these GPUs...$399/$499 was a good launch price for the performance...$499/$599+ is not. And the low quantities is also very disappointing...AMD is really shafting gamers here.
If prices shoot up i'll be the first to say that is a major failure...the MSRP prices of $399 and $499 are fair and competitive against Nvidia. Raising the prices above that makes the cost/performance lower than Nvidias and when your already considerably behind in market share that is a bad...
I seriously am taken back by anyone trying to buy a top of the line $500 GPU to game at ultra settings and high res yet are stuck on using a sub 500W power supply...
And for what it's worth i'm still using my OEM Lenovo power supply...it just happens to be 1200W.
I know the current street price, yes, I have multiple Polaris cards. I'm referencing MSRP, and also the fact that it's true you could pick up an RX 480 for 20% off launch MSRP only 3-4 months after release. I know because I did. And it's certainly possible that could happen again.
Look at any steam survey..very very very very very few people are gaming with anything more than at $250-$300 GPU even in 2017. If you have a 4 year old 290X your still in the top 10% of users on steam. 1070/1080 GPU users make up only about 5% of all the DX12 GPU users on steam....and probably...
They could also be launch prices and expect prices to fall even lower in the coming months. We saw that initially with Polaris last year, launched at $199 and 3-4 months later companies like Powercolor had them at $160 after rebates. Highly doubt MSRP goes up..but if miners love these cards...
I've never bought a GPU because it used less power than a more powerful GPU if both of them worked with the PSU I had. Only miners are really going to care about the power requirements between Vega and Pascal. And even they will opt for Vega since it will mine significantly better.
They didn't? They didn't release a GPU that matches or beats 1070/1080 performance in most scenarios at $399/$499 MSRP? Weird..I thought that's what all the reviews showed.
