...IMO it is not possible to compare previous architectures as the software is developed to take advantage of the hardware features provided by the manufacturers. Little point in looking at single core throughput and very misleading as there could be very negative impact on shared cache memory...

Why doesnt Intel make a 3 core cpu...?

..if that is the case.....then why does Intel even bother with the bottom end at all? If it's sold as a three core and it has three cores then it's a tripple core....made by AMD. It's a fully independant core, fully featured multi-core processor and if three are good why not sell three instead...

....quck follow up to my ealier posts. I bit the bullet and replaced the mobo and DDR3 RAM with Gigabyte 785G chipset and managed pc boot up and driver instalation without having to put on a fresh operating system. P2 965 (3.4) at default settings and able to crank up graphics settings in Crysis...

PC is now at 3000MHz Stable. Using AMD OC multi-unlock 15 X 200 voltage slightly increased from 0.975 to 1.0 mainly because going straight to 3.4GHz resulted in system shutdown and I suspect voltage to be the culprit. Interestingly P2 @ 3.0 CPU WEI index score in Ms Vista 64 is (5.3) slightly...

Quick note for those interested. Just placed Phenom II 965 3.4GHz CPU on AM2+ GA-MA770-DS3 mobo using F7 BIOS, no modification. Immediate boot and stable. Mobo recognises correct model, but runs core O at 1600MHz and cores 1 to 3 at 800MHz which I assume is C&Q at work. Currently running AMD's...

Overclocking is the Dumbest thing you can do!

The real problem is that these happy go lucky OCer's flog their wares off to Mr & Ms Noob after the baking has been completed, or worse flog off a dud on ebay. But then it's never been OCed. One careful old lady owner, hardly ever out of the shed eh! Yeh right!
