WINS name resolv for Linux

WINS != DNS Stick to TCP/IP + standard protocols/services to use the Internet. No can do, I'm a college student on a predominately Microsoft campus. The Windows servers are already in place. DNS is for the college, WINS is for their students. Plus, I don't understand how you can say that WINS...

Hello, I'm on a Microsoft campus, everyone runs the OS and I want to use Linux. However, I can not figure how to setup linux to do a WINS lookup for DNS. I want to be able to ping a Windows machine at a command line like "ping einstein". Or use lynx or Konqueror and go to http://einstein...

Trouble with Tiger MP

That is Google trying to index your page. Check out google.com to find out more info on the file Robots.txt. Basicly, it defines some rules for web bots to use while indexing your site for a search engine. - Mike

Networking HP G55 Printer/Scanner

I have an HP Officejet G55. It has the possibilities of scanning and printing. Network printing is easy. However, how do I do network scanning? I want a bunch of computers to be able to scan a picture and have it zoomed across a network to their computer. Thanks for the help. - Mike

Server question

I would reccomend running Linux on it. I run Red Hat 7.2 on mine (Athlon MP, Tyan s2460). Use Samba to connect the workstations to file shares. You could even set it up a as Primary Domain Controller. - Mike

Different Clocked CPUs in a Tiger MP?

I would recommend against thinking you would be able to run different processor speeds. I have a Tyan Tiger MP (s2460), which originally ran in uni-processor mode with an Athlon 1500 MP. I finally got the money and ordered a 1500 XP from an online retailer. They "upgraded" me to a 1600 XP...

Brief review: Planar 17.4" LCDs- Analog vs. Digital

I agree about the LCDs, ghosting is not a problem, at least for me anyway. I have a 15" Sylvania LCD, I absolutely love it. I play Quake 3 and Counter-Strike on it almost daily. I never notice any of the ghosting that people talk about with LCDs. My 2 cents. - Mike

New Detonator drivers.

It only makes sense that you can't use an old Detonator driver with a G4. You don't really expect older drivers to support future boards do you (sometimes a year away)? That would be kind of silly. Usually, the latest Detonator drivers are the greatest. - Mike
