800mhz vs 1066mhz memory HELP PLZ!

Yea 4850 is another option. For some odd reason, well atleast according to some reviews, its the 4870 that sucks power like there is no tomorrow in idle mode. However, the 4850 seems to run quite nicely, consuming much less power when idling. I did check the G.Skill link, but unfortunately...

I havent bought any parts of the system yet. But will do that very soon. Anyway I don't expect to be overclocking very much. So I guess I'll settle for the PC6400 modules. About the 4870 it was definately tempting, but I just can't get over the trememdous waste of energi in idle mode...

Suppose that makes sense, but unfortunately my motherboard of choise P5Q Pro does not support DDR3 Memory afaik. Guess i'll just have to keep my eyes pealed for a good deal on another 2x2GB of DDR2 within the next year or so. Anyways I don't see DDR3 falling very much in price before Nehalem...

I don't think I will be overclocking! In fact, I mean not to! So I guess that The 800Mhz should be ok, even if the PC needs to last a few years. Another question is, say i buy the 4GB Corsair PC6400 DHX, and wants to upgrade to 8GB in about 2 years, just to be safe. What are chances the same...

Who will buy Nehalem ASAP?

Yes thx for the replies, Cheex. I think that makes the decision a little easier for me. I will go with the existing Q9450 model.. even though Nehalem will make a significant difference in some scenarios i dont think I can justify the added cost of the more expensive new motherboards, DDR3 ram...

I had kind of expected they would replace current card line up with new cards at some point. But I was wondering if there is any emminent plans to replace GTX260 and GTX280 with 55nm products, or weather nVidia will now focus on a 55nm card to take on R700 and then maybe wait til spring to...

Who will buy Nehalem ASAP?

Will soon make a new Quad Core rig, and Nehalem seems interesting but.. Does it work on existing LGA 775 motherboards? Does it only support DDR3 ram and will the desktop part hit the stores this year, or is it only the workstation Xeons that will be released in 2008?

Interesting.. I was afraid they would only put 1 top end card out, and leave the runners up in the 65nm dust. Anyway, as I stated in previous post I'd like to see a slightly added performance boost, and lower power consumption so these cards can finally be better performance for the buck...

Thx for answer Jax, Clearing CMOS isn't too bad. Burning a brand spanking new CPU is :) So i guess that its usually the FSB and not the clock multiplier that it's common to set these days. Haven't really messed around with this since late nineties, early 2000'es.

Dont think i can wait for Nehalem, it might be another 6-9 month before the mainstream CPU's will be at acceptable price levels. And right now I am in the USA where hardware are dirt cheap.. so I better try to take advantage of this and make a good bang for the buck PC to last me a while. :)

Yeah, Guess i'll go for the Q9450 after all. At least it should meet my video encoding needs for a while. I might be able to do a mild overclock.. guess 3.3 Ghz should be within limit on stock cooling.. or maybe I can find a good zalman cooler. What will happen btw if i push it too far? I...
