New laptop for med school: advice?

I'll probably be buying in early-mid July. School starts Aug. 11, so I'll need it before then. I went to the Lenovo site and configured a notebook that was identical except for the Quadro FX 570M graphics card and 160 GB, 7200 RPM hard drive. I also put XP Pro on it. (Good idea?) I don't know...

Yeah, I've had that model recommended to me before. I've had amazing luck with Thinkpads in the past, so they're definitely attractive to me. However, the ASUS I'm looking at really has incredible hardware for the price. It'll be tough to find anything comparable, I think.

I tried to search for these questions and could not find what I was looking for, but forgive me if they've been answered explicitly before. I've seen several people mention that a PSU with a single 12V rail is desirable. Why? What are the advantages of having only 1 12 V rail? More wattage...

I'm interested to see how the 3870x2's performance shakes out once all the driver issues are addressed (in March?). It seems to be a very promising card even under the current imperfect conditions.

Best case in town? Antec 900?

The Antec 900 is apparently very loud. I was considering the P190, myself, but was steered towards the P182 instead. It lacks the gigantic side fan, but it still has 3 120 mm fans and space for 2 more which is still quite substantial. You might also wait to see what the Antec 1200 has to offer...
