Question to my fellow pro-lifers on the killing of abortion doctors

My simple view is a fetus is not a child, the same way a child is not a mature adult. But to me, a fetus is a human being, albeit in its most primitive stage of life. I think abortion is pretty barbaric... I abhor it, in general. But murder? No... it is not the same as killing a self...

Attention foreign (non USA) people: you smell bad

In grad school some of my friends in the department shared an office with some fellows grads from India... it's summer (95F 95% humidity), the office has no A/C and three dudes who haven't showered for a week. One word on the smell in that office.... DAMN. One of my friends finally lost it...

Poll: Do you support federal funding of science?

In principle, if we are going to have a strong/large federal government, then that government might as well provide funding for "real science". The problem is, as with things big government, science will be become political. Scientific funding decisions and the governments use of those science...

How to use solar energy to recapture Co2.

Also... if plentiful green energy is freely available then we can simply sequester carbon from the air by running a molten carbonate fuel cell "in reverse"... i.e. use it as a electrochemical carbon dioxide pump to pull CO2 from the air.

Supreme Court: Justices extend gun owner rights nationwide

Like so many in this thread... I can't believe the decision 5-4 "unless" the supreme purposely confers and decided to make the decision look close... although I don't why they'd bother doing that. Anyhow... I guess we shouldn't be so surprised... more and more it seems the SC tries to interpret...

We have more people going into Science than what the market demands.

<-- PhD in Chemical Engineering, thesis in the area of solid-state surface physics I worked in the Pharma/biotech industry for 4 years before going back to school to get my PhD. I am not sure it was the best move financially but I have had a great time the last 5-7 years... grad school is way...

Out-of-work job applicants told unemployed need not apply

IF persons past company laid them off instead of other people in their department... there is generally a good reason and quite often it has a lot to do with the capability and talent of the person relative to other people at the company who were not laid off (not always true but typical)...
