new pc (pc2) is going to replace pc1, and I have an OS (xp pro) cd for it--I have 2 hds that will be going in pc2 that both have information I cannot delete.

I have a hard drive that has recently been used on a different pc (pc2).
Pc2 is no longer functional, and I was unable to backup the hard drive (which works fine).
Is it possible to take the hard drive, which has a windows installation...
Sorry I didnt mention before, I am running XP Home.
Nothing recent in the registry has been changed to my knowledge but I know that kind of thing can happen.
Any suggestion on where I should look/how to reset to default?

Starting today any disc drive found by the computer has been inoperable. It does not show up in windows explorer as a drive.

Interesting development--everything reseated all connections solid.
I loaded up memtest and saw it came up and left the room--came back to check on it and it was frozen on 15 seconds of the test...

Ok, I have rechecked all cables etc, preparing to run memtest86. Something odd to note however is that figuring it was memory i tried the windows install with each stick separately and it performed similarly.

I am not familiar with PowerISO--and in fact i dont believe oblivion tries to access the cd during play--but it could be that if you are running around and its triyng to load anything off the cd it could be causing a hangup.
Also as long as you own the game howbout looking into a nocd update...

I recenty corrupted an installation of Windows XP Professional by trying to backup some data to the drive through a linux live cd.

Sadly I have tried to 'rescan disks' and nothing happened as a result of that.
I also am not using an nvidia IDE driver. The motherboard is an 875 chipset board by chaintech. What completely baffles me is how it works on initial boot after installation then just disapears next reboot.

Well you see, I cant even format it again, it doesnt even show up in disk management. Its like once windows loads the HD doesnt exist.
And god i just finished moving my mp3 and video collection over.
