Looking for a laptop with a good screen.

The best laptop screen is the one that Toshiba use in their 5200-S705 (I'm not sure but I think I remember the model number correctly). In canada, they might use different model. Anyway, it is hard to find now since toshiba discontinue the model almost after the first month of releasing it...

Difference between IBM T41 and T40

Just want to add something. The published max arial density is probbaly for the 80GB version (in the case of 5k80 HDD). For the 40GB version, the arial density will be lower than that number. Mocca

The 5k80 might be a little bit faster because it have higher arial density. But if the HDD have the same size, the differences will be small. I'm not sure about the i855 but AFAIR the i855 was built for PC1600 and PC2100. This is from my memory when I first read the Intel white paper about 6-7...

Difference between IBM T41 and T40

It all depend on the specification and the promotion at a time. The memory in the T41 is indeed PC2700 but it won't help much because the P-M chipset is designed for the PC2100. It is like put the PC133 SDRAM on a motherboard with a CPU that only use PC100. It is mainly marketing attempt to make...

T40: Touchpad-less palm rest

Yes, it take about 5 min to replace the palmrest. However, I like my T40p with touchpad better (to each his/her own I guess). It look way cooler :) even though I don't really use touchpad that often. Mocca

T40p question?

If you remove the hidden partition and delete it, you will lose the predesktop area. In stead of getting into the predesktop area when hit the "Access IBM" button, you will get a choice to get into BIOS. No big deal IMO but you might want the diagnosis tools. Mocca

T40p external monitor

I assume you mean external output to a monitor or LCD. I tried that before sometime ago and find the quality is ok, not superb but not too bad either. It, however, give a nice clear and not fuzzy picture, at least on my LCD. May be you need to try adjust your setting? Mocca

Opinion on the IBM Thinkpad X31

I would actually avoid removing the lcd from the laptop. This depend on the laptop design though but most laptops require the LCD cable to be detached before you can remove the lcd panel. And on some laptops, the detachment of the lcd cable is easier to do if you detach it from the behind the...
