I'm only speaking from my own experience when addressing this and it's nice to see that it still can be an active topic even in 2012. It's likely that I'll be completely blind in the next 5 years and I'm thankful for the move to LCD if for several reasons - the cut down in size and power use...

Thanks for the pictures.:) How do you handle the end sata power connector in the chain as far as not having the end of the wires bare? Is there a different power connector/cap combo for that?

Need help deciding

OMG the power draw on 3x 480 - that's insane. Not that the other 2 are any better but max power draw with the cards alone would be about 750 watts. Like Charlie98 stated - you would likely get more clearcut input in the Video Card forum.

New Build - HELP

Essentially yes - what I suggested in the previous post would do it. Isolating the board from any power source (the PSU and battery), hold power button, and waiting about 30 seconds will normally clear up anything in the bios settings.

Is it worthwhile to make this a server?

I've given away several AMD dually systems the last year - they were working fine and had plenty of memory, but they were all 6-10 years old. I was going to use them for bench purposes but the noise alone made them impractical.

It's not that simple - the fan has to have the correct wires and sensor for the bios to acknowledge and control - especially with the 4 wire ones.

You can replace the fan with another 120mm fan but it has to have the 4 wire/ 5 pin dell connector. A generic fan will not work correctly and will give errors at system boot and may not even allow for system to boot beyond bios check if a fan is not detected. Try getting the Foxconn or...

Is it worthwhile to make this a server?

Sometimes free is good but in this case not so sure. I'm thinking warm and noisy between the processor coolers and the hard drives. Also not likely very efficient when it comes to energy management. Did you get just the board with nothing else - no processor or memory?

Can you get any reaction to pressing any of the "f" keys at system boot - f1, f2, f10, f12 or something along those lines to get into system bios? Check the event viewer and see if you are getting red "x" or yellow warning messages - specifically under system or application. Try cleaning...

6950 poor performance

Does that board suffer from the PCIe x1 bug? Run CPUz and check the third tab - mainboard - and make sure the link width says x16 and not x1.
