Down with RealAudio, die, die, die

Realplayer is the suckiest of the suck. I believe it had the distinction of winning the recent anandtech poll of worst software ever. I refuse to install it at all, my computer has been 'Real-free' for over a year. Sometimes there is some content I really want to see, available in rm format...

Norton's defragramenter vs. default Win 2000 and Win 98 defragramenters

Norton's defrag is pretty good, definitely better than microsoft's (which is really bad). Systemworks is a pretty good package and has some pretty useful utilities, the main ones being the AV and defrag, just beware of some of the others like cleansweep and crashguard (or whatever it's called)...

Vancouver Information please.

Vancouver is probably the most beautiful city in North America, so quite your belly-aching about "having" to move there. I grew up there and would move back in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose. You'll love it. Yes, real estate is very expensive, but you'll do OK. 40k US is about 60K...

Linux Internet Browser

Konqueror for me mostly. I've grown to really like it. I also like mozilla (slow) and galeon (very speedy). I find Netscape still works best for certain sites that go heavy on plugins like java... BTW, I just installed ikons and the lightShadow theme availabe from kde-look.org and I must say...

LOL. I saw this a few days ago and had a good laugh. I've read many articles writen by this guy and he's an absolute moron. I think this is the same guy who couldn't figure out the product activation on microsoft office and complained because it stopped working on him while he was travelling...

Windows 2000 vs. Windows XP

Here's another vote for win2k over winxp. I just spent the day installing xp pro on my girlfriend's computer and I found it to be quite annoying at times. And my god the interface is terrible -- even after turning everything back to "classic" windows, microsoft has hidden many advanced settings...

My dad's current system is running on a Cyrix 166mhz MII and he wants me to upgrade it. How's this stuff sound?

Consider getting him a CDRW instead of a regular cdrom. It's not very much more $$$ and highly functional

I think the gigabyte comes in a waterproof edition that is sealed in plastic--you might want to check that out. There may also be a retail edition complete with fire extinguisher for thermal emergencies... :D
