How To Anyone ever fix a filthy "bad" motherboard with a cleaning?

I was just showing thick tin whiskers which I didn't think were possible. I'll have some pics today. I'm thinking ultrasonic cleaning will destroy the uber fine whiskers.

Vintage XP PC. Once I started ultrasonic cleaning stuff, I'm always looking for a job only ultrasonic can tackle, however hot water does a good job. Besides, I never let excrement stand in my way! haha The build up on the CPU is totally whack - I wonder if it could be a mass of tin whiskers...

Wrong screws makes montherboard non-bootable, why?

That is definitely true. So could it be that the PC case is not at ground potential - maybe off a couple of volts due to bad caps in PSU so that some mobos cannot tolerate this? I think I would scrutinize each of the bolt holes in the mobo. It should be readily discerned if grounding is...

What happens to all the old aftermarket motherboards?

The scrapping makes sense because it doesn't cost much to make a mobo. And the difference between a $50 and $300 mobo is negligible. So if you blow out premium boards, you'll basically kill your retail premium board market. All makes perfect business sense. Still, mobo sales and discounts...

Lite-On Blu-Ray Burner--$299

No TurboTax Deals but it gets even worse...

All the retailers are running out of the $45 Deluxe version so that you HAVE to buy the $80 Premium to get your taxes done by the 15th. Office Max and WalMart here in Greensburg PA are out. BB has 15 left.
