LPDDR5X would have to be soldered on, but LPCAMM2 wouldn't. Again we're not talking a currently available product here, but Mopetar speculated on a desktop Strix Halo board with expandable ram, and he's not wrong that AMD or a partner could release such a board to the DIY if they really wanted...

Why would you need to buy the RAM as a combo? The whole idea is that you can choose the amount that's right for you. You'd just get the CPU soldered onto the MB, but you could still have upgradable RAM, PCIe/m.2/SATA slots, ATX power, etc. CAMM availability is obviously terrible now, but that...

It's DIY other than the CPU being soldered. You'd still get to choose every other part other than the CPU/MB combo.

Probably not socketed since AMD is unlikely to develop a new large socket for it, but there's nothing (that I know of) precluding someone like Minisforum putting a Strix Halo on a Mini-ITX or mATX board like they do with the Ryzen laptop chips, and including two LPCAMMs for 256-bit memory.

There actually doesn't seem to be that many people defending the card, even on that review discussion it seems pretty negative on the VRAM and pricing. It's just that much like here the couple people saying there's nothing to see here and it's all just a big witch hunt are very vocal about it.

That's under the assumption that native+FG is better image quality than upscaling. Pure native vs DLSS sure, but every second frame for native+FG is going to be generated and could very well be worse that an upscaled frame.
