Anybody misses the Socket 478 HSF mechanism?

You've never seen the latest AMD latching system I take it... You basically just position the heatsink over the CPU.. place the metal clips over the base loosely, and then turn the plastic lever on top of the heatsink to secure it...all done. It must be the best (and easiest) heatsink...

Problem with HP Pavillion DV9000

Sounds like you've been hit with a failed Nvidia chip...I had a DV6000 which pretty much did the same thing (GF7200).

I don't disagree about Charlie err..over-reacting about nvidia news.. it's pretty obvious.. But *some* of his news on Nvidia has been pretty spot on.. And I did agree with the Inq about the whole rock debacle in FarCry2.. that's hardly newsworthy..

Another day, another "Focus Group" member sticking up for Nvidia :) But seriously..yes Charlie does get a few wrong...but he was pretty spot on with the crap Nvidia chips...I've been hit twice by them!

If you have the two partitions as you say, and both are exhibiting the same kind of problem, then it would most likely suggest a faulty card.

Far Cry2 Cat 8.10 HotFix render errors

Please keep in mind people that this is only a game :) As far as optimizations go based on filenames? I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.. unless of course it's a synthetic benchmark, in which case it's just done for marketing purposes only. If the engineers at ATI/Nvidia can squeeze...

And as far as I've been able to figure out, it's a problem with more than the 7xxx and 8xxxx series. I've got a wonderful HP DV6000 laptop that has had the wonderful "wireless adaptor drop-off-the-system-and-never-come-back" issue. The first laptop was replaced by HP after it failed. This...
