Mandrake 9.1 is the easiest to set up and has a ton of included applications... and Wine is easy to install on it allowing for microsoft applications to be ran on it, if you decide to do so. Mandrake has a ton of support for newer devices...

There is one thing you need to do if you overclock, lock your AGP/PCI frequency in your BIOS. Your sound should work by then, if not, then I assume you are using onboard sound from this board. I have the same board and I just use an Audigy 1 Platinum.

Sounds like to me that you are using the latest Detonator drivers, say the 40.72's and the associated patch for it located at www.guru3d.com.

It works fine with my configuration. Nero works faster and offeres better 1:1 copying for archving of back up CD's. Nero burns quicker in certain configurations.
