is it worth it to get a 9700 over a 9500 Pro?

edipis, the 9500 pro is gonna be more than enough for you at 1024x768....on that same note I would highly suggest snagging the 9700np so you don't handcuff yourself at a later date. If your monitor's highest(or optimal even) resolution is 1024x768, IMHO you should forego your processor upgrade...

oh, and btw, don't remove the CMOS battery when you reset the BIOS...that could be another possible reason for your computer not booting, because if you remove the CMOS battery when you clear the CMOS I don't believe the settings will reset to defaults. To clear the CMOS, just power down, switch...

hey bro, I hope I'm wrong with this but it sounds to me like your CPU got fried. You may want to pull the HSF off and visually check the core for chips or (my belief) burn marks. The only other thing that I can think fo that it might be is your power supply. If you have any spare computer parts...

hey dooder, most places don't shrink-wrap their mobo boxes...in fact I've never seen one shrink-wrapped before...ever. Of course I don't frequent compUSAs and other Nazi hardware stores, so ymmv.

Sounds to me like your HSF wasn't contacting the core correctly...if fan direction alone killed your processor then you are living way too close to the edge as far as heat goes on your processor to begin with. Fan direction should only change processor temps by 5c MAX, that'd mean that you were...

Granite Bay vs nForce2 (memory bandwidth)

Bandwidth limitations are always theoretical but the conclusion is not, P4 systems handle higher bandwidth memories better than athlon processors.

Nforce2 now or wait for KT400a?

Not to start a flame war or anything, but Marlin, how hard is it to install 4in1s? Adjusting BIOS settings is far more complex than installing 4in1's, and all mobos require that; not to mention, nvidia chipsets require drivers too. I can guarantee that I know how to set up a computer system...

Y'know this just occurred to me...have you tried installing with the sticks you have seperately? Chances are very high that you only have one defective stick of RAM(I definately agree with the rest of the posters...this IS a RAM issue) that is preventing you from running XP. You should be able...

Nforce2 now or wait for KT400a?

I'd agree with yodayoda. My experiences with VIA mobos have resulted in migraine headaches. Also, I can't explain why but the overall responsiveness of via mobo systems do not seem to be as crisp to me. I just recently purchased an a7n8x(w/ XP 2100) to upgrade my old BH-6; I held out so long...

***Trustly old Abit BH6 now @ 1.57 GHz! Slot 1 owners come on in***

God I love the BH-6. Every time I think it's done someone squeaks more out of it. This mobo is quite sumply the best board ever. I'm really gonna miss mine <I just upgraded to a a7n8x>, thems was good times. <sniffle>

**Good for o/cers** Results showing the difference between a Generic and Name Brand PSU

yah, I had a sparkle 250W on my old system for over 4 years. Never had one problem with it, and my system was slightly *massaged* with a little OC as well(450 - 504 MHz). I have a quiet PSU now from Q tech(I believe) and it is rock-solid so far...I've seen a lot of my friend's computers crap out...
