HAL.DLL BSODs are driving me nuts!

Scenario 1: I run 3dMark2001. The tests themselves run fine, but as soon as it gets to the loading screen, there's a big chance that my comp will either hard-lock, or BSOD with a STOP 00...00A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ... hal.dll. The 00A stop means its a driver problem, right? So what is wrong...

Nero 5.5.6.4 won't start in Win2k - problem while accessing the registry!

Yes, but I thought the ASPI was only for the IDE/SCSI interfaces, not Firewire.. Anyhow, I removed all copies of wnaspi32.dll from my system, and installed the latest version of it (directly from Nero's site, in fact) to the Nero folder, but I still get the same problem. Here's another clue...

Nero 5.5.6.4 won't start in Win2k - problem while accessing the registry!

Nope, I have definitely installed it as Administrator (multiple times, in fact). I have narrowed it down to an incompatibility with Nero's WNASPI32.DLL (is the ASPI layer even used with Firewire?). I'll try to get in contact with Ahead to sort this out...

Yep, I am logged in as Administrator. I have access to second computer, with pretty much identical parts, except a different burner, and Nero works fine on it. Could this really be a registry problem or is it something totally unrelated?

I have a BusLink Firewire CDRW (for writing) and a Creative 16x DVD (for reading). I use Win2k. Both drives work fine when it comes to reading data, but try as I might I can't get Nero started (other programs won't recognize my drive, but since a Nero CD came with the BusLink drive I asssume...

KT7 RAID won't detect my IBM 46.1GB 75GX UATA100! Oh the humanity!
